Richard Pertwee (Chair of the Board)
Richard Pertwee is a lawyer, who specialises in helping clients to buy and sell businesses. After rising to become Managing Partner at Taylor Wessing, in 2006, after hitting the dizzy age of 50, he decided to go part time and to do more in the voluntary sector. Richard also sits as a Magistrate in Portsmouth and in the Youth Court in Fareham.
Tom Rutherford is a consultant practising in the arena of sustainable investing. For over 20 years he worked for global investment firms and has substantial experience working with charities and advising on their investments, with particular focus on aspects of social responsibility. He is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and Associate of the UK Society of Investment Professionals. He joined the Swanswell Board of Trustees in 2011.
Andy Furlong is the Director of Policy and Communication at the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), a professional body with over 42,000 members worldwide. He joined IChemE in 1999 after 14 years in the manufacturing industry. He project managed the 7th World Congress of Chemical Engineering and has been closely involved in the delivery of several major IChemE initiatives including the successful whynotchemeng careers campaign and the Chemical Engineering Matters project. Andy has written speeches and specialist briefings for many decision-makers and opinion-formers. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Annie Steele (Director of Operations)
Annie, our Director of Operations, is responsible for the management and delivery of services. Annie's career has always been about supporting people to help them live the life they want. She joined the substance misusue field in 1996 as a GP liaison worker and has since managed a range of services across alcohol, drugs and floating support. This experience has built a remarkable knowledge of sector service delivery.
Dr Steve Brinksman (Medical Director)
Steve, our Medical Director, provides clinical leadership for the organisation including its clinical governance aspects. He has over 25 years of experience as a GP and has worked with drug and alcohol users throughout his career. He’s the clinical lead for the Substance Misuse Management in Good Practice network (SMMGP), a member of the NICE Quality Standards in Substance Misuse Group and is part of the Novel Psychoactive Substances Network. He helped to develop the Neptune Guidance on legal highs and shaped Birmingham’s successful primary care based drug treatment model – a model Swanswell was also instrumental in developing.
