Alcohol awareness

Just making changes to how and when you drink alcohol can help you be healthier and feel fitter. We run groups in the Heart of Birmingham that help you set your own alcohol limits and stick to them, using the Swanswell toolkit.

The Swanswell toolkit
The toolkit is a handy set of cards that can easily slip into your pocket. We’ll show you how to use the toolkit to decide what changes you want to make and how to get the healthy lifestyle you want. You can even get tips on how to help others change the way they use alcohol.

Who should attend the groups?
Anyone wanting to keep their alcohol use at a level that won’t damage their health can come along. If you are regularly drinking above recommended limits – 2-3 units a day for women and 3-4 units a day for men – then the toolkit can be useful to you. To give you some idea of what a unit means, a 330ml bottle of 5% strength beer, lager or cider is 1.7 units, and a small 125ml glass of 12% strength wine is 1.5 units.

The groups are a relaxed and friendly way of getting support and staying motivated.
