Swanswell staff raise over £1000 in the Corporation Street Challenge
21 March 2011
Staff from Swanswell have raised over a thousand pounds for charity after taking part in an epic 33-mile bike ride.
Seven workers from the national charity, which wants to achieve a society free from problem alcohol and drug use, took part in the ‘Corporation Street Challenge’ on Friday 18 March to raise money for Comic Relief and other good causes.
It involved cycling from Swanswell’s head office on Corporation Street in Rugby to their office on Corporation Street in Birmingham, taking in Coventry, Four Oaks, Hampton-in-Arden, Birmingham Airport and the city centre.
After six hours of hard work up hills and along busy roads, the intrepid staff completed the challenge raising £1,075 in the process, however that’s still rising.
It’s the second year staff have embarked on the ‘Corporation Street Challenge’ to raise money for charity after Marketing Assistant James Vukmirovic first came up with the idea in 2010.
James said: ‘We’re all shattered but ecstatic to have completed our 33-mile journey. It was incredibly tough at times but very rewarding – we even had some sunshine towards the end of the day.
‘I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part on the day and for those who have supported us along the way.’
Debbie Bannigan, Swanswell Chief Executive, said: ‘I’d like to say a huge congratulations to our staff who’ve done a fantastic job in raising money for charity by completing such a difficult challenge.
‘I know there will be some aching bodies this week but they know it was all worth it. It’s another example of how Swanswell staff are committed to helping people do well and feel well.’
